Volkswagen and Skoda to start manufacturing SUVs in Pakistan

Premier Motors partnered with Volkswagen Audi Group (VAG) to locally assemble Volkswagen (VW) and Skoda vehicles in Pakistan and launch locally manufactured SUVs in Pakistan. The company also broke ground at Hub, Balochistan, to set up its local vehicle assembling facility. As per the latest news update, Premier Motors looks to capitalize on the growing crossover SUV demand in Pakistan.

The initial plan was for the company to launch the Transporter van and the Amarok pickup truck in Pakistan. However, General Manager of Engineering Development Board (EDB), Asim Ayaz, claimed in a recent Pakwheels.com podcast that the company plans to launch compact and subcompact SUVs of VW and Skoda in Pakistan. Premier Motors, however, appears to have many intentions for the Pakistani market, none of which are geared toward the demand for affordable vehicles.

Which SUVs in Pakistan to be launched:

Volkswagen plans to introduce SUVs or mini SUVs in Pakistan from Skoda and Volkswagen in Pakistan, according to the company. It follows that they will now introduce passenger cars rather than business trucks. Initially, “they would deploy these autos,” he added.

The expected launching models of SUVs from Volkswagen and Skoda might be:

  • Volkswagen Taos, a C-segment SUV
  • Volkswgen T-roc, a B-segment SUV.
  • Skoda Kodiaq, a D-segment crossover SUV.

Premier Motors Limited:

In order to grow the automotive division of its parent company, Premier Systems (Private) Limited, Premier Motors Limited (PML) was founded. The largest automaker in the world, Volkswagen AG (“VWAG”), and PML have signed a CKD Assembly License Agreement to supply and produce cars in Pakistan.

The Federal Ministry of Industries & Production has granted PML “Category A Greenfield Investment” designation in order for it to establish a CKD Assembly factory for Skoda and Volkswagen in Pakistan. The CKD assembly factory will be built at a cost of PKR 16 billion, with a nameplate capacity of 30,000 units annually. The cutting-edge CKD assembly plant is now being built at Hub, which is around 28 kilometers from Karachi. Production is anticipated to begin in July 2023.
